Design Tip #40: "Define the problem, not the solution"

If you want your design team to explore new frontiers, define the problem and the objectives very clearly but refrain from offering up specific solutions up front. Let your design team explore the problems and see what they come up with. Who knows, they might approach the problem in a way you had not considered! After all, that's what designers are for. However, certain projects require specific solutions for specific problems, so if your team isn't hitting it, you can always chime in later.
